Is getting started on Social Media on your ‘to do’ list for 2017?
Setting up a business page on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or LinkedIn can seem like a mammoth task and knowing what to do or say may feel daunting.
We all know we need to be on social media nowadays but finding the time to set up accounts and get them off the ground can be a struggle.
If that’s how you’re feeling then outsourcing your social media for the first few months could be a solution.
Sharing the story about how your business came about and how you help your customers is an ideal way to personalise and humanise your brand.
This is a good first step into social media and a way to build your audience and find out what your followers are interested in.
While it’s free to set up your accounts, if you want to get started but need some guidance, it can be worth outsourcing to free you up to work on your business.
With a background in journalism, I have 20 years experience in story telling and that is what social media is all about so if you need to get going on social, I can help.
So how does it work?
Firstly, it’s best to establish which platforms work best for you as different networks work better for certain businesses.
A gym or personal trainer might build up a following quickly on Instagram, where exercise is a popular topic.
If you have a business making clothing for children, Facebook would be preferable as that is more parent focused.
So first, pick the platform/platforms to concentrate on.
Secondly, we’ll discuss your objectives.
Are you a new business?
Do you want to engage existing customers or reach out to a whole new audience?
What do you want to achieve through social media?
Setting up social media platforms isn’t going to quadruple your takeover straight away or have customers elbowing their way through your door (unless you have a really amazing offer!)
However raising awareness of your brand can only have a positive impact on what you do.
Thirdly, what’s your time frame and budget?
This is really important. Because every business has different needs, rather than fixed packages, I offer tailored packages to suit each individual.
Bespoke doesn’t mean bank balance busting though.
You could get your Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn or Instagram page off to a roaring start for the same price of an advert in a glossy magazine for a month.
That’s a huge weight off your mind as we are all very much aware of the importance of having an online presence.
As well as posting updates, social media is a good way of bringing customers to your website by creating and sharing your own content.
This could be anything from a newsletter to a testimonial or a how to video – again – I can help with this too.
Finally, what happens if you want to take over?
You may only require support for a few months, then once momentum has built up, plan to take over the channels yourself.
That’s absolutely fine – I truly believe the best person to be posting about a business is the person who is living, sleeping and breathing it 24/7!
A bridal shop I worked with gained 500 followers on Instagram in two months and a new bar saw their Facebook page gain 750 followers in the month leading to their launch – that’s how quickly you can gain a captive audience.
Once you’re ready to take over, we’ll have a training session where I’ll explain which resources you will need to continue.
Bear in mind, businesses should be spending a minimum of four hours a week on social media.
So if you’d rather keep outsourcing, then I’m happy to carry on too.
