It can be overwhelming, so here’s some pointers to get started.
All businesses need a social media presence and this differs depending on the work you do.
A pet business would use Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
An accountant is more suited to LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook.
Not everyone is going to see posts on social media though.
Even if you have a really busy Facebook page, you have a three second window to capture attention with your content.
And did you know that as little as 2-6% of your fans will see your updates unless you pay to boost it. Doesn’t sound much does it?
The ‘life span’ of a tweet is only 18 minutes, so unless people are looking specifically at your feed, they won’t see that either.
So, you need traditional media too.
I blogged recently about a pet business in Warrington who had some fabulous coverage in the Warrington Guardian.
They were giving free grooms to dogs at the local rescue, Warrington Animal Welfare.
This was on their Facebook page, so their 200 followers may have seen it. But the local paper has a readership of 711,000.
You see the difference.
If you’re launching a new business you need someone who can set up your social media AND write press releases and distribute them to the local media too.
That’s local papers, websites, magazines, free sheets, many of which have seen their staff levels plummet and are crying out for content.
