DOG owners are including their furry friends in their proposals, weddings and even taking them on honeymoon!
Nearly half of pet parents – 40 per cent – involved them in their special day. A fifth were ring bearers, and a third of newlyweds polled by travel website PetsPyjamas took their pet on honeymoon!
A further 11 per cent took part in engagement shoots and Save The Date cards and a huge 56 per cent of people aged 18 to 24 said they couldn’t imagine getting hitched without their pup by their side.
Karen Hanton, co-founder of PetsPyjamas, said: “Dogs are such an important part of family life so it makes perfect sense that people want to involve their four legged friends in their wedding.
“We’re keen to help them in all elements of their big day, from finding a suitable venue to choosing a bow tie and somewhere to honeymoon where their dog can feel special too!”
We spoke to two owners whose pets joined them at their celebrations:
Becky and Anthony Taylor, 29, from Wolverhampton, included their Westie Rufus, three, in their Save The Date shoot, their wedding and took him on honeymoon.
Blogger Becky, 27, said: “We dressed Rufus up in a smart bowtie and a friend brought him along to Pendrall Hall in Wolverhampton for the wedding photos
“Our wedding favours were gifts from Dogs Trust and we had donation boxes which raised £500 for them.
“Rufus joined us on honeymoon and was treated like a king. Some people might think it took away the romance but we loved it!”
Adorable Cocker Spaniel Woody was ring bearer for Wendy Petersen, 40, and her husband Kevin, 58, at their wedding.
The couple from Horsham in Sussex dressed him in a matching suit to the groomsmen and he carried in the ring on a cushion made from the same material as Wendy’s dress.
Transformation Programme Manager Wendy said: “Woody went for a walk on the beach with the groom’s party on the morning of the wedding, then for a wash and blow dry at the groomers while myself and my bridesmaids got ready.
“He looked so sweet and was as good as gold carrying the rings. He missed out on the wedding breakfast but he did spend the night with us!”
